Thornleigh House Now

I thought I recognized Thornleigh House from the previous photo that you sent. It is next door to Woodbank Private School that my eldest brother Arthur (known as Bob) owned and was headmaster of until 1991. Brother Ray also taught there and Frances worked in the school kitchen and her husband Albert was caretaker.

Yesterday morning I was in town and instead of having a cup of coffee I took a bus ride to London Road. I walked along past my brothers school – now a Muslim school – and what was Thornleigh. One of the residents on the forecourt waved to me as I walked past, and I stopped to watch a blackbird on a tree in the garden, singing his heart out. The house is now called Oaklands and belongs to “Prime Care” who has about six in Leicester, all called something lands. I noticed the house was built in 1871. There was a notice on a lamppost inviting anyone who would like London Road to be a conservation area to a meeting. I hope they get it as there are lots of lovely old houses along there that should be saved.
